Euphonium & Bass trumpet
Hélène Escriva graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (Philippe Fritsch’s euphonium class), where she also took courses in instrumental theater, opera singing, drama and generative improvisation. Curious and versatile, she discovered bass trumpet with the French Youth Orchestra in 2013. Between 2015 and 2027, she won several international competitions: Concours International de Tours, Prix-Concours European Prize, Yamaha and Meyer Foundation grants, European Competition of Young Soloists in Luxembourg.
She quickly became a leading international figure and has been invited to play with prestigious orchestras (Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Les Dissonances, Orchestre National de France, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, Orchestras of Lyon, Toulouse, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Musiciens du Prince, Opéra Regio di Torino…). She has collaborated with conductors such as Philippe Jordan, Joseph Swensen, Tugan Sokhiev, Mikko Franck, Cornelius Meister, Vassily Petrenko, Emmanuel Krivine, François-Xavier Roth…
An avid traveler, she takes part in renowned festivals where she performs as a soloist and gives masterclasses: Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), IWBC (USA), M-C Festival (Colombia), Jeju Wind Festival (South Korea), Eurocuivres Asia (Taiwan), Gravissimo! (Portugal), Festival Européen Jeunes Talents, Festival de la Chaise-Dieu, Alzira Festival (Spain), Festival di Milano (Italy), AYTUB Festival (Spain)…
Drawing on decisive encounters with Jens McManama, Christophe Giovaninetti, Frédéric Schtol and Vincent Lê Quang, Hélène asserts her artistic identity by stimulating original chamber music projects and surrounding herself with dynamic, inquisitive musicians, arrangers and composers. She creates a number of atypical and audacious formations, and develops a repertoire based on transcription, arrangement and creation. In 2025, she works in duo with partners such as marimbist Vassilena Serafimova and accordionist Pierre Cussac, and shares the stage in quintet with Lucienne Renaudin Vary.
With creation as her spearhead, Hélène develops the solo and chamber repertoire for euphonium and bass trumpet with young composers such as Nicolas Worms (Fantômes, for Euphonium and orchestra, premiered with the Orchestre de l’Armée de l’Air in 2017), Gabriel Philippot (Invocation démoniaque, for solo euphonium and trombone octet), Robinson Khoury (Casaya, for solo euphonium and brass ensemble, premiered in 2022) and Camille Pépin (works for brass ensembles).
In 2019, she meets James Thierrée and joins the prestigious Compagnie du Hanneton: a metamorphosing troupe, energizing carousel, music and bodies in motion and monumental sets. Hélène trained in stage and live performance with electrifying, multi-skilled artists for two new creations: MO’S and ROOM.
In 2024, she founded the company asH! with the aim of opening up music to audiences through a plurality of artistic expressions, and then became an instrumentalist who sees beyond the mastery of her instrument: a curator of impertinent creations (Overflow project with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra & creation of Musas -alone on stage).
Since 2021, she has been teaching bass trumpet at the CNSM of Paris and chamber music at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Chambre of Geneva.
Hélène is a Yamaha artist and plays the YEP-842S euphonium & Alexander bass trumpet.
